Arthur F. Birt, Jr., was born In Decatur Jan. 27, 1904. He has always lived in that same block and was known to everybody in the east side of town. Mr. Birt and Miss Collette O'Brien of Pana were married Feb. 7, 1930. He leaves his wife and two children, Floretta and Arthur John Birt. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur F. Birt, Sr., Decatur, and a sister, Miss Mary Birt, student nurse in the West Side hospital in Chicago, and four brothers, Halden, Floyd, Rolland and James Birt, all of Decatur.
He attended the Decatur public schools and later the Tennessee Military academy. He was associated with his father for awhile in the firm of Birt & Driscoll and a few years ago he and his brothers formed a partnership under the firm name of Birt Bros. They secured many large state and municipal paving jobs as well as large grading and excavating contracts for large corporations. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, the Illinois Contractors association and the Associated General Contractors of America. Funeral Thursday.
Funeral services for Arthur F. Birt. Jr., were held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning in St. Patricks Catholic church in Decatur. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father R. J. Eagear. Burial was in Calvary cemetery, Decatur.
Mrs. Colette Birt, his widow, is a sister of Mrs. J. P. Donegan of Clinton.
