Shirley received her education in Neidpath until grade 6, Wolverton, a country school where she was taught by her mother, then Wadena and Norquay High Schools.
She married Byron Nystrom on September 20, 1965. They were blessed with two sons. They lived in various places including Pelly, Yorkton, Saskatoon, Vanscoy, Grand Cache, Edson, and Norquay. Shirley worked at various secretarial jobs before working at the Norquay Health Center, until her retirement in 2012.
Shirley loved to organize, decorate, clean, paint, mow grass, and keep her yard and garden very neat. She loved to look at and organize pictures, both old and new. Shirley loved to travel and enjoyed many camping trips while the boys were growing up. In later years, they enjoyed traveling to Yuma, Arizona for the winter. She loved to visit with friends over a cup of coffee and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She will be lovingly missed by all who knew her.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Melvin and Anna Reine and her father-in-law, John Nystrom.
She is survived by her loving husband, Byron; sons, Kim and Trent (Michelle); grandsons, Levi and Cody; her mother-in-law, Joyce Nystrom; sister, Evelyn (Jerry); brothers: Allan and Lyle (Carrie); brothers-in-law, Doug, Don (Angie), and Miles (Lydia); and sisters-in-law: Ruth (Denny), Faye (Dennis), and Carol (Greg); as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends.
In Shirley’s honour, a Private Graveside Service will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, north of Norquay, SK, with Tricia Challoner officiating.
