On Monday, January 27, 2020, James "Jimmy" W. Abernathy, loving son, husband and father of three children passed away at age 54.
Jim was born on July 22, 1965 in Memphis, TN to Eugene and Virginia (Simmons) Abernathy. He worked many years as an underground electrician.
Not commonly known, Jim was a gifted poet and artist. He also had a deep, abiding love for music of many genres. Jim was a Christian man. While we mourn the loss of his earthly presence, we rejoice knowing that he is with Our Father.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Eugene S. Abernathy. He is survived by his mother, Virginia (Simmons) Abernathy, his wife, Julie Abernathy, his three children, Jessica Abernathy, Kyle Abernathy, and Kristen Abernathy, and two step-children, Courtney Chastain and Jeremy Chastain. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Adrian Abernathy and Cadence Davis.
The family requests that any donations in lieu of flowers be sent to St. Jude Research Hospital.
