James L. Abernathy, 64, a retired fireman, died of heart failue Friday at his home. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and two hours before services. Mr. Abernathy was a Simpson County native. He moved to Richland 20 years ago and was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. He was a Mason and Shriner. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include: J. Michael Abernathy of Huntington, W.V., and Edwin L. Abernathy of Union City, Ky.; brother, Wesley J. Abernathy of Richland; sisters, Mary Nell Purvis of Raleigh, Evelyn Dukes of Brandon, and Frances Fulton of Jackson; and five grandchildren.
