Pioneer Resident of Breck Dies at Age of 84

Mrs. Callie Hawley, 84, resident of Breckenridge since 1906, died Friday morning, July 28, 1944, 8:50 o'clock at a local hospital following an illness of about two years. She was born in Tennessee on January 18, 1859 to Josiah Seth and Lydia Joins McGuire, but came here from Baylor County Texas. She married John Thomas Hawley on August 21, 1881 in Honey Grove, Fannin County, Texas. She became seriously ill a few days ago and was taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon. Surviving her are her husband, J.T. Hawley, two sons, Claude Hawley of Breckenridge and John F. Hawley of Fayetteville, Arkansas;three daughters, Mrs. Edna Martin and Mrs. Ada Ball of Breckenridge, and Mrs. Mary Whitefield of Seagraves; two brothers, John McGuire of North Carolina and Hugh McGuire of California; 22 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Satterwhite Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Homer Hebard officiating; the hour to be determined pending word from relatives. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery.

The children were Claude Eli, Edna Earl, John Franklin, Mary Ann, and Ada Bell Hawley. Claude married Florence Meinzer and was a deputy sheriff in Stephens County. John Franklin married Sue Stouard, daughter of Will & Lavinia Stouard. They lived in Arkansas. Ada Bell married John Thomas Ball, Jr.
