In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Jan Ellyn Hinkle; one son, John B. Hinkle; two brothers, Patrick C. Fleming and infant brother, Jimmy Fleming and one sister, Betty Fleming Waldo.
Surviving are one daughter, Jill H. Cable and husband Robert of Buckhannon; four sons, James D. Hinkle III and wife Cheryl of Rocky Mountain, VA, Jeffrey C. Hinkle and Annie Stimson, Michael M. Waldo and wife Ann, and Mark L. Waldo and wife Carla all of Buckhannon; one daughter in law, Verr Hinkle of Buckhannon; twenty grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren.
Maxine was a member of the Chapel Hill UMC, the Emeritus Club at WVWC and a founding member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was an entrepreneur at heart and in 1995 won the Athena Award for Business Woman of the Year. She acquired and renamed the community pool, Hinkle’s Pool in 1963, where teens enjoyed dances during the summer. In 1976 she added to the family businesses by building the Bicentennial Motel, where she employed a vast amount of young adults and helped them move forward in their careers.
Maxine was always caring for families in need and senior citizens. As a grandmother she loved hosting meals and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to West Virginia Wesleyan College for the Jan Ellyn Hinkle Scholarship Fund; please mail your contributions to WVWC Advancement Office, 59 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Friends will be received Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Helen Oates officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
