MIRANDA RANSOM, the eldest daughter and child of Major Ezekiel and Lucinda F. Ransom, was born at New Fate, Windham Co., Vt., its shire town, and commonly known as Fayetteville, Sept. 6, 1792. But little can be said as to her early career, which was passed with her parents at the Townshend farm, which at that time was a mere opening in the forest, and remote from the centers of civilized life, was destitute of the comforts and conveniences that the hardy pioneers of that day rarely enjoyed. Her grandfather, Newton, was then living at Shelburne Falls, just across the Massachusetts line, and one of her uncles, Dr. Luther, was at Halifax, the town adjacent, in Vermont, and it is not unlikely that the family passed a considerable portion of the winter season with them, where she could have the advantage of schools.

She married her cousin, Elijah, son of Dr. Luther, then a practicing physician in Halifax, Sept. 21, 1814. They remained in Halifax until 1819, when the entire family moved to Chazy, N. Y. They remained there for some years, when they again changed their home, this time locating at Mooers, N. Y. There they passed the remainder of their lives.

Elijah died July 31, 1871, and Miranda in January, 1872, the world being the better that they had a portion in it. Historical outline of the Ransom family of America Transcribed by ambs
