Lois Jean Adams was born on August 14, 1932 on the family farm in the hills east of Anoka, Nebraska, to Louis and Emma (Denker) Adams. She loved living down in the hills in their big house. Lois especially enjoyed raising ducks as a young child. As, children, she and her sisters would walk to their country school and she fondly remembers the meadow larks singing beautifully, along their path in the spring time. Lois attended Spencer High School and graduated in 1950. She later attended several colleges when she had free time, until she received her teaching certificate from Wayne State College. She enjoyed all the friends she made along the way, especially the group that called themselves the Big Six. They remain friends and stayed in touch all their lives.

Lois was a proud country school teacher and taught in several country school districts in Boyd and Holt Counties. She bought a Model A car and would drive herself where ever she needed to go, it was light enough that sometimes she could drive over snow banks when the roads weren’t cleared so she could get to school. She also taught school in Spencer and several schools in western Nebraska.

Lois married John “Jack” Langan in Spencer on February 9, 1956. To this marriage, six children were born; Steve, Maureen, Ann, John, Mike, and Janet. The couple made their home by Eagle Creek for a time, then near the Niobrara River, and later near Gross, Nebraska. The couple lost their youngest daughter, Janet, to pneumonia when she was three years old. It was a loss that stuck with the couple for the rest of their lives.

Lois is survived by her five children, Steve Langan and wife, Carrie, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Maureen Haley and husband, Mike, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Ann Langan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, John Langan of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Mike Langan and wife, Angie of McCook, Nebraska; ten grandchildren that she has enjoyed watching grow into fine young adults; one very intelligent great granddaughter; three sisters, Darlene Lechtenberg of Butte, Joan Hoffman of Omaha, Ellen Beebee of Omaha; several nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack in 2000; one daughter, Janet Langan; one grandson, Brian Langan; and one sister, Betty Hamilton.
