Pvt. William A. Bacus, son of James and Margaret Bacus, 20 years old when he enlisted on 1 Aug 1862. William was enrolled into Company A of the 85th Indiana Volunteer Infantry when it was organized on 2 Sept 1862. William's time in the service was cut short when he was mortally wounded in Kentucky and died on 27 Dec 1862. William died in the field hospital in Nicholasville, KY and was honorably discharged posthumously. His remains where returned home to Sugar Creek, IN where he lies to this day.
