Daniel M. Mahar, age 95, affectionately known as "Danny", of Independence, MO passed away February 13, 2020, in Independence, MO. Danny was born June 19th, 1924, in Trenton, NJ, the only child of Daniel H. and Mayme (Maley) Mahar.
Danny was raised on the family farm in Trenton. His father, Daniel H. Mahar was a decorated veteran of WWI, receiving a Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Cross. His mother, Mayme (Maley) Mahar was a Red Cross Nurse.
Danny proudly served his country during WWII as an Army Air Corp pilot. He enlisted again during the Korean War with the U.S. Marine Corp. as a flight instructor.
Danny had a lifelong and heartfelt sense of service and duty to his country; a trait he clearly inherited from his father. He was actively involved with the VFW and American Legion and served with the Honor Guard of both organizations.
Danny held various jobs during his lifetime, with many years as a life insurance salesman. He retired from the United States Post Office in 1975, as a letter carrier.
Upon retirement, Danny attended Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Clown College and became a professional clown and magician. He greatly enjoyed the many activities he participated in while being a clown and magician. Danny “Dr Hi Jinx” and his wife, Eunice “Nurse Ima Joy” performed over 1000 hours of volunteer service at Research Medical Center trying to lift the spirits of countless hospitalized patients. He would like to be remembered for his ministry as a clown, showing God’s love to all that needed it.
He belonged to countless clown, magician, military, and service organizations. He spent many hours as a volunteer with many hospitals and organizations. He was a member of Country Meadows Baptist Church, Independence, MO.
Danny was preceded in death by wives, Dorothy (McBee) Green, November 1971, Doris (Hoss) Hughes, March 2005, and Eunice (Ratliff) McGranahan, March of 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Terry Stair and step-son Jerry Green, in 2015.
Danny is survived by many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and other loving family & friends.
