Leonard Calvin Springer

1923-2020

Leonard Calvin Springer, age 96, received a call in Edmond, Oklahoma, on February 19, 2020, to attend a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time, and he will not be returning.

Leonard was born April 11, 1923, to Samuel (Shorty) Springer and Nora (Truex) Springer. He was born and raised in the Kaw city area. His childhood with 15 siblings is a book yet to be written.

He married Ethel Pray on September 2, 1949, and they started their lives together in Ponca City, OK. They had 2 children, Harold and Sharon, and 1 foster son Rocky Holt.

Leonard wore many hats throughout his life; farmer, carpenter for oil companies, park recreational director at R&D, running a sod farm, and his favorite job of all, being a grandpa. His jobs took him from Oklahoma to Colorado and South Carolina. He retired in 1984, living in Edmond and Guthrie until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He leaves behind his loving family; wife of 71 years, Ethel; son Harold Springer (Karen) of Oklahoma City; daughter Sharon Springer of Guthrie; granddaughters Andrea Hanson (Josh) of Centennial, Colorado and Leah Long (Kyle) of Guthrie; great granddaughter Dani Johnson of Centennial, Colorado; and all of his brothers and sisters at Waterloo Church of Christ.

Leonard will be remembered for his kindness, his love to tell stories, and his amazing capacity to love.

In lieu of flowers, the family would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in need, in his name.

Public visitation will be held Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 2-8 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home with family greeting friends from 2-4 p.m. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2020 at Waterloo Road Church of Christ in Edmond, OK with interment at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Ponca City, OK.
