Richard W. Adams enlisted as a Corporal on August 23, 1861 at Atlanta, Illinois in Company F, 38th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He served in Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and was discharged upon expiration of his term of service near Atlanta, Georgia on September 15, 1864 as a Sergeant.

He died Sunday morning, November 18, 1893 at the home of his sister, Mrs Mary C. Hull in Starke, Bradford County Florida. Mr. Adams was born in Vienna, Clark County Ohio, January 12th, 1847 [?. too young for service in 1861, must be 1842, 1880 census gives it as 1843 ] . Some years ago he contracted consumption and came to Florida in search of relief, but the disease had become too deeply seated and finally caused his death.

During the war Mr. Adams served in the Union Army, having enlisted in 1861 in Company F, 38th Illinois Volunteers. He was its color bearer for three years and three months.

Mr. Adams was well known and highly esteemed in this community. He was a brother of Mrs. L.C. Hull, and to herself and family is extended the condolences of the entire community.
