John David Jones, the son of James Riley Jones and Mahala Jane Barnes Jones, was born May 26, 1878 as was his twin sister, Dora Belle Jones. John married Ona Tucker, 26 May 1901, and they had four sons: Tucker, Earl, J.D., and Robert.

John D. Jones died yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his home following an illness of a month of a complication of diseases. Funeral services will be conducted at the First Christian Church tomorrow by the Rev. Walter Haushalter. Burial will be in the Columbia Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born in Boone County May 26, 1878. He had made his home in Columbia since he was a very young man and for a long time was a clerk for Strawn & Neate, dry goods. For several years he had been engaged in the grocery business."

The grocery business that was referred to in the article was the grocery store across the street from Jefferson Junior High School. The "first" Hickman High School was built where Jefferson Junior High School now stands. Ona and John Jones lived in the house on the corner of North Eighth Street & Hickman Avenue. They built the grocery store on Hickman Avenue behind their house.
