David "Mitch" Mitchell, age 88, of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020. David was born December 17, 1932, in Battle Creek, Michigan, but was raised in Athens, Tennessee, by his adopted parents Clifford and Mabel Olsen.
David served in the U.S. Army from 1949 until 1972. During his time in the service, David did tours in Korea and in Vietnam as well as earning a bronze star, service medals and awards. He worked for the City of Copperas Cove in Copperas Cove, Texas, from January 12, 1981, to January 31, 1998.
David's hobbies were going to Lil Tex Restaurant in Copperas Cove, Texas. He loved visiting Harbor Freight and Tractor Supply. He loved tools. He also enjoyed telling stories about his experience in the military and city stories about driving the buses while helping the City of Copperas Cove. But two things about Mitch was that he disliked dealing with oil changes and he always had a big heart to anyone in need.
David is survived by; son Michael Mitchell, living grandchildren and great grand grandchildren; a friend Teresa Williams and many more.
David was preceded in death by his wife Sieglinde Mitchell; daughter Petra Mitchell; father Clifford Olsen and mother Mabel Olsen.
A visitation will occur Saturday, February 29, 2020, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 211 W Avenue B, Copperas Cove, Texas. A funeral service will follow. A graveside service with full military honors will occur Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at 3:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas.
