LOG CRUSHES RIGGINS MAN

RIGGINS-A Riggins woodman was instantly killed Monday when a section of a log struck him while he worked on Hailey creek. The victim, 48 year old Charles Cecil Donahue, employee of the Idaho Logging Co., a subsidiary of Salmon River Lumber Co., was working on the downhill side of a large tree he and his partner, Buck McInulty, had just fallen. The men were cutting the tree into sections.
McInulty reported he turned to shut off the power saw and when he looked back Donahue had been crushed by one section of the three foot log. Both sections started rolling and Donahue apparently jumped away from one log and into the path of the other. Dr. Strouth, who was in Riggins, was called, with Fr. Thomas J. Lafey of Grangeville. The accident was investigated by Sheriff Bud Taylor.
Donahue's chest was crushed. He was employed for 4 1/2 years by Salmon River Lumber Co., and was a highly skilled woodsman and power saw operator.
Donahue was born April 10, 1907, at Burchard, Nebr., where he obtained his education. He was married Dec. 12, 1929, to Miss Edith Mclaughlin, at Mayfield, Kas. The couple farmed near Burchard until 1940, when they moved to Potlatch, where Donahue worked in the timber industry.
In 1951 the family moved to Riggins and he was employed in wood work until his death.
he is survived by his wife, at home, three daughters, Joan, also at Riggins; Mrs. William Morrell, Wilbur, wash., and Mrs. Robert Vise, Birmingham, Ala.; his mother, Mrs, Mary Donahue, Liberty, Nebr.; four sisters, Mrs. Julia Kirkendoll, Beatrice, Nebr.; Mrs. Nate Roberts, Liberty, Nebr.; Mrs. William Sivey, Tecumseh, Nebr.; and Mrs. Elmer Hart, Lincoln, Nebr.; three brothers, Gene, Los Angeles, and Tom and Mike, both of Lincoln, and five grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. William Morrell and children arrive Monday night to be with Mrs. Donahue. Mrs. Vise flew from Birmingham, arriving on Tuesday. One of the brothers also is en route from Nebraska for the funeral.
