He had been a timber miller, store merchant, and was retired from Macfield, Inc. of Mayodan. He loved string and piano music, baseball, and fishing. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Elizabeth Nance Lester, and brothers Paul Everette, James Edward, and Fred Johnson Lester. He is survived by three sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren.
