Thad S. Snell, Jr., was born in the homestead residence on 209 Taylor Street, Ida Grove, Iowa, on Dec. 12, 1884, to Thad S. Snell, Sr., and Catharine Noble Snell. He went to grade and high school in Ida Grove, Iowa, and furthered his education at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. He obtained a degree in bachelor of science in 1907 and immediately came back to Ida Grove to study law. It was his lifetime ambition to be a lawyer.

He died April 14, 1941, while driving his car north on Burns Street to the business district, from a heart attack.
Burial was in the Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa, cemetery.

He was possessed with unlimited human powers of understanding, the senior member of Snell Bros. Law Firm here.

He realized it was going to take hours and hours of private study. He entered the law office of Will E. Johnston, Ida Grove attorney, soon after his graduation from NW University. This was the beginning of his public life, a life which was devoted to the culture and development of the other person.

For two successive terms, he served as clerk of the district court, and in 1914 was admitted to the Iowa bar. His ambition had been realized through 7 years of study and prepration. He opened an office in the secind floor of the Smith building on Main Street. At this juncture in his life, a workable partnership was made with his brother, Roy, who was located at Hawarden, Iowa. They established the firm of Snell Bros.

In 1917, Bruce, a younger brother, entered the firm, and the two brothers, Bruce and Thad, operated the firm with the offices in the bank building.

His brother, Roy, passed away in 1921, which was a great shock to him for they were inseparable in their boyhood and were only 2 1/2 years apart in age.

A year before the death of his brother, the Snell Brothers formed the firm of Besore & Snell Bros. at Holstein with C. F. Besore.

He held various offices in Republican organizations, and at the time of his death was the 9th district chairman of the party. He also served as county chairman a few years ago.

He was a member of the Natatorium Association's board of directors, board of directors of the Commercial Club, and held various offices in bar associations in the county and district. He was a member of all orders of the Masonic lodge and was a member of the local Methodist church.

He was married on June 27, 1917, to Catharine Noble and to this union two children were born, Thad III, 22, and Barbara, 18, both students at Northwestern University.

Besides his wife and children, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Thad Snell, Sr., one brother Bruce, and one sister Catherine, who is assistant professor of physical education at Minnesota U., Minneapolis, Mn.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Leonard, two sisters, Mary and Grace, and his father.
