Obituary in The Utica Observer, Friday, April 18, 1902:
At his home, 1# Spring St., shortly after midnight, occurred the death of Herbert Clifton Abbe, after an illness of several months. Mr. Abbe was born at Enfield, Conn., July 2, 1867, and resided in Hartford, Conn., until he came to Utica four years ago. He learned the trade of electrical construction in Hartford and came here to fill a position with the Utica Electrical Manufacturing Company, where he has been constantly employed since. Eight years ago in Hartford Mr. Abbe married May (Mary?) Evers, who survives with one son, Evers Abbe, seven years of age. There are three brothers, Henry, Daniel and Myron Abbe, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Allen of Hartford. Mr. Abbe was held in high esteem by his employers and those who knew him. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He formerly conducted an electrical business at Hartford, Conn., under the firm name of Abbe and Durnell (sp?). Prior to that he was connected with the Eddy Electric Light Co. of Hartford.
