August V. Weigel, 75, died Tuesday at St. Anthony Hospital here following a long illness.

He was a retired farmer and businessman, having operated the Weigel Motel and Weigel Oil Co. here for several years. A lifelong Ellis County resident, Weigel had lived in Hays since 1947.

Married to Marie Alway Oct. 28, 1919, Weigel is survived by his wife of the home.

Other survivors include six sons, Francis of Gorham, Gilbert, Albinus, August Jr., and Eugene V., all of Hays, and Edward J. of Hutchinson. Six daughters, Mrs. Ray (Virginia) Herrman of Hays, Mrs. Linus (Berniece) Rupp, Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. Gerald (Olga) Montgomery, Denver, Colo., Mrs. Dolores Heit, Hays, Mrs. Virgil (Mary) Zimmerman, Mason, Texas, and Mrs. Max (Catherine) Logsvon, Hays. One brother, Valentine M. Weigel Jr., Gorham; three sisters, Mrs. Tony Kindernecht, Loveland, Colo., Mrs. John Habercorn, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Frank Bittel, Gorham; 47 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Weigel was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and four brothers.
