Helen I. Knight Dowdy, 76, died August 28, 1996 at the Springfield Comprehensive Care Center in Lindside. Born July 4, 1920 in Lillydale, she was the daughter of John Samuel and Sarah Annie Croy Knight. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin G. Dowdy; one brother, Berman Knight; three sisters, Maude Weikle, Mary Broyles and Roxie Via. Surviving are four nieces, Eva Mae Miller, Mary Ann Humphreys, Agnes Dixon and Mildred Fleshman; and three nephews, Elwyn, Mervin and Ronnie Weikle. Burial was in the Saint John's United Methodist Church Cemetery.
