Joyce Anne Engelhart, 88, a longtime resident of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Avantara Nursing Home of Groton.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2020 at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Gary Compton and Joyce’s son, Rev. Scott Engelhart, will be officiating. Burial will be Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also view the service via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Joyce Anne Henschel was born December 8, 1931 to Carl and Vierl (Yuker) Henschel in Stratford, SD. She attended school in Ipswich and Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1950. Joyce married William J. Engelhart September 23, 1950 in Aberdeen.

Joyce moved with Bill to Wichita Falls, TX when he joined the Air Force in 1951 during the Korean Conflict. They moved with their son Mark back to Aberdeen where Joyce was a stay-at-home mom raising 5 children.

Her loves in life were her family and church. She spent many years taking care of the babies in the nursery at church and taught Sunday school, Bible school and served on various committees. Her other joys were growing roses, baking, and embroidering. She made enough baby quilts for many generations to come.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Mark (Holly) Engelhart, Aberdeen, Scott (Pam) Engelhart, Lander, WY, LeeAnne (Greg) Kulesa, Watertown, Brad Engelhart, Aberdeen, and Becky (Kim) Dockter, Lees Summit, MO; 10 grandchildren: Megan (Christopher) Theiling, Shawnee, KS, John Nolte, Richfield, MN, Evan (Krystle) Kulesa, Helena, MT, Alex (Holly) Engelhart, Lander, WY, Michelle (Shane Anderson) Engelhart, Sioux Falls, Jeremy (Chelsea Spring) Dockter, Louisville, KY, Jordan (Taylor) Dockter, Lees Summit, MO, Isaac Lien, Aberdeen, Haven Kulesa, Watertown and Peyton, Kulesa, Watertown; 2 great grandsons, David Nolte, Richfield, MN and Henry Theiling, Shawnee, KS; 1 great granddaughter, Charlotte Theiling, Shawnee, KS; sister, Carole Jean (Don) VonWald, MN; one brother-in-law, Vince Stotz, Ipswich, and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her in-laws, Bill and Barbara Engelhart; brothers, Jerry and Carl Henschel; sister, Donna Stotz; grandson, Nathan Engelhart, and granddaughter, Aarin Kulesa Nolte.

Family prefers memorials to Nathan Engelhart Scholarship Fund to benefit Aberdeen Christian School.
