Charles R. Adams, of Elko, Nevada graduated to heaven from his home on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, after a seven year journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Pueblo, Colorado, January 4, 1930, to Benjamin Roy and Mae Claypool Adams, Charles was eager to work from a young age. After school he shined shoes, learned how to type and was a bellhop while living in Dalhart, Texas. Charles also sold shoes after classes until graduating in 1948 from high school in Pratt, Kansas.

Charles enlisted in the Army after graduation earning awards for his marksmanship. His proficiency as a typist allowed him to serve in the 3rd Infantry Regiment, Presidential Honor Guard while stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia. A medical discharge prompted Charles to pursue a career as a civil servant with Top Secret Q-clearance that spanned 34 years and included positions with the Atomic Energy Commission and the Department of the Army in the states of Tennessee, Virginia, Nevada, Illinois and California.

While a junior in high school, Charles met the “love of his life”, Marjorie (Marge) Corley in neighboring Hutchison, Kansas on a blind date. After a 4 year courtship they were married on June 10, 1951 in Pratt, Kansas leaving the next day for employment in Clarksville, Tennessee. Charles and Marge celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past June. Their union was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Stephanie and Joelene. As foster/substitute parents they opened their hearts and home to over 30 other youth who came to call them Mom and Papa-Daddy
