NOTE: James married Ann Southerland of Stanford, Dutchess Co., NY. He was a blacksmith and a farmer. He commanded a company of men under Colonel Morris Graham's Sixth New York Militia, from Dutchess County, NY in the Revolution. They fought in the battle of Saratoga and helped in the capture of Burgoyne in October of 1777. James was later given the title of Colonel and was a presidential elector in 1812. He was a highly respected citizen. 1782: Had twin children. No other data is known about them.

He is supposed to have moved to Sharon when the town was founded in 1739. He moved to Stanford, Dutchess Co., NY in 1747. It is with James that the spelling of Tallmadge started to show up in this line. James was born Talmadge, but apparently changed the spelling during his lifetime as he shows up under both spellings.
