Robert E. Aikins
Anchorage, Alaska-E. "Bob" Aikins, 73, Anchorage, formerly of st. Joseph, died Sunday, September 2, 2001, at a hospital in Anchorage after having an accident while hunting and fishing.
Mr. Aikins retired from the South Pacific Land Co. in Mount Shasta, California, in 1969 and Kenai Borough in Kenai, Alaska, in 1987.
Born in St. Joseph on April 26, 1928, he was a graduate of Benton High School there. He eared a degree in forestry and land a management from the University of Missouri at Columbia, Missouri.
Mr. Aikins was married to his first wife, Virginia. They were later divorced. Then he married his present wife of 30 years, Pauline. She survives at the home.
Mr. Aikins was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lena; and a grandchild.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Sherry Stevens, Palmer, Alska, and Susan Aikins, Anchorage; two sons, Steve, Dillingham, Alaska and Sam, Anchorage; a sister, Eleanor Jones, Paulsbo, Washington; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, September 8, at the Elks Lodge in Soldotna, Alaska. Arrangements were by the Evergreen Memorial Chapel at Anchorage. Memorials may be made to Providence Children's Hospital of Anchorage in care of Sherry Stevens, HC04 Box 9228, Palmer, AK 99645, in memory of his grandchild.
