Israel Addington, 78, went to be with the Lord, April 5, 2000.

He was born in Pound, Va., on May 13, 1921. Mr. Addington was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 32 years of service. He was a member of the Prestonsburg Chapter 182 of Prestonsburg, Ky., Pikeville Commandery Lodge No. 45 of Pikeville, Ky., and the Grand Lodge No. 889 of Wheelwright, Ky.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruby C. Addington; daughters, Carolyn Childress and husband, John, and Pamela G. Addington; grandchildren, Reyna Nichols and Clayton Nichols; great-grandson, Dakota Bristow, all of Virginia Beach; brother, Berk Addington of Flint, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A funeral will be held at1 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Interment will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Military honors with Masonic rites, Norview Lodge No. 113, will be accorded at the grave. The family will receive friends today at the home of Mrs. Ruby Addington. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners' Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
