Esther Mattison

Esther Ruth Brugman was born Oct. 1, 1921, to Peter and Bertha (Oetzman) Brugman in Bingham Lake. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, and graduated from Bingham Lake High School.

In 1946, Esther married Lewis T. Morris. The marriage was blessed with three children: Bertha, Robert and Sandy. The family lived in Salinas, Calif., and Lexington, Ky., where Esther kept busy as a housewife.

After Lewis's death in 1952, Esther moved to Windom.

In 1965, Esther married William A. Mattison at the Methodist Church in Bingham Lake.

William died in 1995 in Storden. Esther continued living in Windom until moving to Diamond Willow Advanced Care in Alexandria in 2008.

Esther was a member of First United Methodist Church in Windom and was a secretary of the Methodist Church in Bingham Lake.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, Esther was preceded in death by three brothers: Merle Brugman, Eldon Brugman and Leland Brugman.

Survivors include her three children: Bertha Jane (Larry) Rupert of Alexandria; Robert D. Morris of Hooper, Utah; and Sandy L. (Creighton) Olson of Joplin, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eunice Swift of Onamia.

Special music will be provided by Carol Vought, organist.

Casket bearers will be Scott Olson, Preston Olson, Camron Rupert, Riley Hvezda, Ethan Hvezda and Mason Olson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Esther's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
Visitation will be held Thursday from noon to 1 p.m., at LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom.From: LaCanne Funeral Home

Esther Ruth Mattison was born on October 1, 1921, in Bingham Lake, Minnesota to Peter and Bertha (Oetzman) Brugman. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She graduated from Bingham Lake High School.

On January 11, 1946, Esther was united in marriage to Lewis T. Morris. This marriage was blessed with three children, Bertha, Robert and Sandy. After marriage, Esther and Lewis lived in Salinas, California and Lexington, Kentucky where Esther kept busy as a housewife. Lewis passed away on February 14, 1952. After his death, Esther moved to Windom, Minnesota.

On September 4, 1965, Esther was united in marriage to William A. Mattison at the Methodist Church in Bingham Lake, Minnesota. William passed away on March 19, 1995 in Storden, Minnesota. Esther continued living in Windom until 2008 when she moved into Diamond Willow Advanced Care in Alexandria, Minnesota. She lived there until passing away on Saturday morning, September 5, 2009, with her family by her side at the age of 87.

Esther was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Windom and was a secretary of the Methodist Church in Bingham Lake. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting, her family and friends and especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children, Bertha Jane Rupert and her husband, Larry, of Alexandria, Robert D. Morris of Hooper, UT, and Sandy L. Olson and her husband, Creighton, of Joplin, MO; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Eunice Swift of Onamia; and several other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Lewis T. Morris and William Mattison; and three brothers, Merle Brugman, Eldon Brugman, and Leland Brugman.
