Monty was named after his maternal uncle Montague Guest (1839-1909). He never married nor had children. After his retirement in 1947 and until his death he lived at the home now called Arundells at 59 Cathedral Close, Salisbury, Wiltshire, a property of the National Trust.

Mus., of 59, The Close, Salisbury, Wilts., Canon and Prebendary of Durnford in Sarum Cathedral, formerly sub-warden of St. Michael's College, Tenbury, and Rector of Fugglestone with Bemerton, previously Rector of Lutterworth, who died 14 July, aged 92, left £16,024 9s. gross, £14,475 17s. net value. (Duty paid £3,484). He left £100, in addition to professional charges, each to his executors, John E. Hatt-Cook and Eric H. Legat, solicitors, of 93, Crane-street, Salisbury; £250 each to a nephew, two nieces and a cousin. £500 to the Parochial Church Council of the Parish of Lutterworth, for such religious purposes in the parish as they think fit; £500 to the Parochial Church Council of the Parish of Bemerton, similarly. £1,000 to the Salisbury Diocesan Board of Finance, for the endowment of the Prebendal Stall of Durnford in the Cathedral Church of Salisbury and the residue to St. Michael's College, Tenbury, for the general purposes of that college.
