Raymond was born on June 9, 1943 in Cairo, IL to Andrew and Corrine (Phillips) Compton. He attended Manual High School. He married Eleanor Victoria Flatt on July 7, 1979. They were married 40 years before she passed away in April of 2019.
Raymond honorably served his Country in the US Army. He was a great provider for his family both working as a welder at Caterpillar and at Big Lots. Raymond loved his family. He loved all types of music. He also enjoyed playing video games with his grandson. He had a passion for cars.
Raymond leaves to cherish his most precious memories his loving children which includes three sons, Raymond (Brenda Gibson) Compton, Jr., of Peoria, IL, Nate Turner of Champaign, IL and Darrell (Sondra) Compton of Danville, IL; five daughters, Sonya Carruthers of Oakdale, MN, Crystal (Eddie) Mann, Lanette (Quincy Artis) Compton, Cassandra Turner and Carla (Malcom) Clark all of Peoria, IL; two brothers, Johnny (Fannie) Compton of Acworth, GA and Charles Compton of Seattle, WA; one sister, Debbie (Tony “T”) Gillespie of Tucker, GA; 17 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerome Compton and two sisters.
Raymond was a faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church where funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 13, 2020 with a visitation one-hour prior beginning at 10 am. Pastor Deveraux Hubbard will officiate. Raymond will be laid to rest at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
