(1910 - 2006)

Ellis Wilfred "Pete" Petersen, age 95, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Manitowoc, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at a local hospital.

He was born Aug. 18, 1910, in the township of New Denmark, son of the late Anton and Kirsten (Jensen) Petersen. He graduated from Denmark High School in 1928, and following, served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in England. He was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. On Nov. 29, 1941, he married Marion Larsen in Denmark. They lived in Manitowoc, where he was an electrician foreman at Mirro Company. At retirement, they moved to Sand Bay Beach near Sturgeon Bay, where they had a cottage for 20 years, and following built a new home where they resided for the next 30 years. They wintered in Winter Haven, Fla., as well, for 18 winters. He was a member of Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Survivors include his wife: Marion; three daughters: Sue Ellen (LeRoy) Vogt, Ashwaubenon; Lois Kay (Dennis) Wendt, Bellevue; and Leah Fay (Roger) Johnson, Menasha; four grandsons: Brian, Tony (Anne), and Scott (Katie) Vogt, and Douglas (Mary) Johnson; and four granddaughters: Michelle Stauss (Anthony) Abeln; Jennifer Stauss and special friend, Jeremy Kuemmel; Milaena (Brent) Reade; and Sara (Travis) Herber; great-grandchildren: Mykal Schmechel; Kaitlyn and Alexis Vogt; Lindsay Herber; Spencer and Garret Johnson; April and Brandon Reade, as well as Sara, Jenny, and Scott's summer expectancies.

Ellis was preceded in death by four brothers: Alvin, Carl, Leonard, and Marvin; and two sisters: Elna and Marie.

Family and friends may call Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 County R, Denmark. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at church, with the Rev. Ralph Hankermeyer officiating. Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery, Denmark.
