Steven H. Allen, 78, of Pana passed away Monday, March 16, 2020 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. He was born November 27, 1941 in Pana, IL, son of the late Ben & Hester (Bland) Allen. Steve married Carol J. Sanders on June 30, 1962 in Hopewell Baptist Church and she survives in Pana.
Steve lived in Pana his entire life and was a member of the Assumption Christian Church. He worked for Peabody Coal Company from 1960-2000 and after his retirement, he worked as a substitute janitor for Pana Unit 8 Schools for several years. Steve loved being outside, working in his yard as well as in his garage. He was a hard worker and enjoyed listening to gospel music.
In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his children: Paula (Richard) Lawless, Streator, IL; Kelly (Kent) Sims, Pana, IL; Jeff Allen, Pana, IL; grandchildren: Ben (Jennifer) Kindermann, Jeremiah Kindermann, Mitchell Lawless, Tyler (Marissa) Sims, Whitney (Quincy) Wood, Logan Sims; great grandchildren: Kylie & Kalynne Kindermann, Ephram & Addison Wood, Hudson & Avery Sims and siblings: Sheila Cox, Glenda Jackson, Donna Jean (Tom) Henn, Cathy Guidish, Sandy (Keith) Foor, Janet (Harold) Smedley, Marlene (Wesley) Cox, Darlene (Bill) Richardson, Terry (Bob) Alsbury, John Allen, Bob Allen.
A special thanks to her caregiver, Molly Ishmael, for her loving care.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home. Private family funeral services will be held at a later date.
Memorials in Steve’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
