Freehold Transcript, Friday May 1,1952:
"Birdsal Tilton, 59, of 278 Laurel Avenue, Lakewood, died suddenly about 11:30 Sunday night while in New York City with members of Rescue Fire Company No. 2. He was born in Lakewood the son of the late Elbert and Sarah Truex Tilton. He was a member and past president of the Rescue Fire Company No. 2; a member of the Lakewood Fireman's Relief Association, a charter member of the Ocean County Firemen's Association, president of the Lakewood Fire Police and president of the Lakewood Exempt Firemen's Association. He was a member of the Junior OUAM No. 96 of Lakewood.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ina Clayton Tilton; two daughters, Mrs. Isabella Grant of Bradley Beach and Mrs. Madlyn Fawkes of Point Pleasant, and one grandson, Robert Grant, Jr., Bradley Beach. Funeral services were held today at the DeRoche Funeral Home, Lakewood, the Rev. Marshall Sewell, pastor of the Lakewood Baptist Church and chaplain of the Lakewood Fire Department officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lakewood".
