Ray Donald Eicher, 79, passed away Feb. 5, 2005 in Fairview. He was born April 6, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ray Donald Eicher and Lorena Siekerman.

Ray served in WWII as an anti-aircraft gunman and as a T/4 section leader in the Philippines from 1943 to 1946. During his service he was stationed at Fort Douglas at the University of Utah where he met Rena Evelyn Sinclair. They were married in East Cleveland, Ohio on June 20, 1946 shortly after his discharge from the Armed Forces.

Ray enrolled at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio for two years. They then moved to the Utah State Agricultural College at Logan, Utah. He graduated on June 2, 1950 with his BS degree in agronomy.

On Jan 17 1952 he was confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In February 1952 Ray and Rena moved to Round Rock, Ariz. on the Navajo Indian Reservation where he worked as a soil scientist for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He worked for the Bureau for the next 23 years, living at Mexican Springs, N.M.; Crown Point, N.M.; Tuba City, Ariz,; Farmington, N.M. and Chinle, Ariz.

On May 25, 1958 he was ordained an elder in the LDS Church. He and Rena had their marriage solemnized in the Manti Temple on March 27, 1959. His beloved wife and companion passed away Dec. 7, 2003.

Ray held many leadership positions in the LDS Church including, Moenkopi branch president, president of the Tuba City District in Tuba City, Ariz.; President of the fifth quorum of elders in Farmington, N.M.; president of the Chinle District, Chinle Ariz. and first counselor in the Southwest Indian Mission. He also served on the high council of the Mount Pleasant Stake. Ray and Rena both served 15 years as temple workers in the Manti Temple.

Ray served as the Fairview Lions Club President and in 1977 he was elected Mayor of Fairview.

Ray is survived by his children, Ray Donald (Kathleen), David James, Daniel Matthew, and his grandchildren, Jonathan Ray, Benjamin Dan (Theresa), Elizabeth Kae, Daniel Evan, Danielle, Kaili, and his great grandchildren, Paul Benjamin and Lydia Evelyn.

Funeral services will be held Thursday Feb 10, 2005, at 1 p.m. in the Fairview 1st Ward Chapel at 121 South State Street. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Rasmussen Mortuary at 90 North 100 W. in Mt. Pleasant and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Church prior to services. Interment will be in the Fairview City Cemetery.
