The world lost a lot and became a little sadder place on Aug 5th 2007 when Julie Ann Massey of Valparaiso, Fl passed away at her home surrounded by family and friends after a valiant 3 year battle with cancer. She never once complained and fought to the very end in a manner to be proud of, she was definitely tougher than most have ever seen. She was born May 17, 1968 in Portland Oregon to Allen and Lonella Gettmann.
Julie left Oregon to join the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska before moving to Florida in 1994 where she met her husband and best friend Mike. She loved Florida and it quickly became her home. One of her great achievements was earning her degree from St. Leo's University.
Julie worked many years at Okaloosa-Walton College, she loved the academic setting and she touched many lives. She enjoyed books and reading to an obsessive level while sitting quietly in her home surrounded by her two cats who she cherished. When not reading, Julie liked playing the piano and gardening. One of her loves was riding her Harley which she would sometimes ride to work just to get a little extra time on it. Julie's favorite thing to do was sitting on the floor in front of the couch with her husband enjoying a glass of wine and playing Trivial Pursuit.
Julie is survived by her husband Mike, Parents Al and Nella, Brother Kenny, Sister Becca, and two cats Tina and Lucy. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be greatly missed by them, we love you Julie!
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 6:00 p.m.
