Louis Alemis Fortune was born January 28, 1887 in Bourgogne, Daix, France, to Aime'Victor Fortune and Marie Madelaine Philomene Marrou. Louis stood 5ft. 6in. tall, had blue eyes, black hair and a fair complexion. Louis immigrated to the United States in 1896. In 1900, he was a farm laborer in Gonzales County, Texas. In 1910, he was a railroad fireman living in San Antonio. He became a naturalized citizen in 1913. He was married to Irene Bennett on January 6, 1915 in Laredo, Texas. They had four children; Louis Gerard; Lucille; John A; and Hellen. Louis enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a SPECIAL RANGER on August 5, 1916 thru December 1917. By May 1917, he was a locomotive engineer for the I&GN Railroad, living in San Antonio. In 1930 he was still with that job. Louis Alemis Fortune died December 1, 1954, in Lavernia, Wilson County. Texas. I did not find where he was buried.
