Sgt. Nick Gummersall of Pocatello, Idaho attended Chubbuck Elementary, Hawthorne Junior High and Century High School, graduating in 2002. While at century, he was a standout athlete taking part in baseball, wrestling and football. He was known as "Gummy Bear" while playing football for the Diamondbacks. He had enrolled at Boise State University in the fall and hoped to try out for the Bronco football team as a walk-on. Nick knew that he was meant to make a difference in many lives, so on September 30, 2003, he enlisted in the Army. He would later become an Airborne Ranger 2nd Battalion. Nick was so full of life with never-ending dreams and goals. He had a personality no one could ignore, or help but love. Everyone who came into contact with him was forever touched and a friend. Nick leaves behind his parents, two brothers and three sisters, he's the second oldest of the six children. He was on his fourth tour of duty. Once to Afghanistan and this was his third time fighting in Iraq. His military education includes the Military Occupational Specialty 11B: Infantryman Qualification Course (2004), Airborne Qualification Course (2004), and the Ranger Qualification Course (2005). He was 23.
