William Henry Harrison Hursh was born in Allen Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania to Christopher or Christian Hursh and Catharine Spahr. He married October 27, 1868 at Marengo, Iowa County, Iowa to Sarah Emily Talbott, daughter of Lewis William Talbott and Laurana Ottwell.

From newspaper obituary:
"William Henry Harrison Hursh was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, April 29, 1840 and passed away at Brownsville, Texas, May 24, 1930 at the age of 90 years and 24 days. He responded to the call for volunteers in 1861 and served 35 months in the army of the Potomac 84th Pennsylvania regiment, mustering out at Washington, D.C. in 1863 when Abraham Lincoln reviewed the troops there.

At an early age he apprenticed to a miller and during the active years of his life was engaged in four milling in Iowa and Missouri. He was one of a family of six children, all preceding him in death.
He married Sarah Emily Talbott October 27, 1868 at Iowa City who passed away Dec. 25, 1919. To this union were born W. Talbott who died in October 1921. Also four daughters still survive him. They are: Mrs. James C. Heath of West Hollywood, Cal., Mrs. John A. Clark and Mrs. Elmer Clark of Quimby, and Mrs. C.A. Cole of Mansfield, Ohio, and also nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Cherokee in the Appleyard and Boothby funeral parlors. Interment was made in Cherokee cemetery May 29, 1930."
