A son of Frank and Georgia (Sisk) Dively, he married Esther Gleckler at Harrisburg, Illinois. She died in 1933. He then married Reda B. Howell on January 4, 1945 at Paris, Illinois. HIs children were: James, Paris; Paul, North Little Rock, Arkansas; John, Charleston; Mike, Champaign, Tim, St. Joseph; Steve, Milton, Wisconsin; Kathryn Seaman, Long Island, New York; Margaret Davis, San Diego; and Helen Carpenter, Champaign. Dively was an elementary school teacher in Edgar County, Illinois for thirty years. He taught at the Conservatin Corps Camp at Paris, Illinois and was a pianist and carpenter. He was a veteran of WWI, having served in the U.S. Army. Active in several Masonic organizations, he was a member of Prairie Lodge No. 77 A.F. and A.M.
