Clarence Vernon Albright, 83, a descendant of a pioneer southwest Virginia family died Tuesday, November 2, 2010. He was born October 9, 1927 at Gary, West Virginia, the son of Henry and Corabelle (Meade) Albright. His mother died one year after he was born and he grew up as part of the family of Charles Meade, his mother's brother. Following high school, Clarence served in the U.S. Army and afterward received a Bachelor's Degree from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV and a Masters Degree from Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, MI. Prior to retirement in 1992, he served as an administrator at Wittenberg University, Springfield for 26 years. Earlier, Clarence had worked for Chevrolet Division, GMC in Baltimore, MD. and for Equifax Inc. in Atlanta, GA. Following retirement from Wittenberg, he and his wife enjoyed traveling and doing volunteer work at Elderly United. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Springfield where he served as a member of the vestry and as Senior Warden. He was a member of Anthony Lodge #455 F & AM, former member of Kiwanis, The Literary Club, and George Rogers Clark Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, and the Springfield Personnel Association. He enjoyed the Thursday luncheon roundtable group of Wittenberg retirees where many good stories were told and many laughs shared. Clarence is survived by his wife Joann (Price) Albright of Springfield; daughter and son-in-law Sarah Albright and Michael Healy and their children Daniel and Eleanor Healy of South Burlington, VT.; daughter Lucy Albright of Morgantown, WV; one brother Henry (Evelyn) Albright of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters Edith and Sylvia Albright, and three brothers James, Cecil and George Albright. A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM. in Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Charlotte Collins Reed officiating. The family is being served by RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME.
