Hershel B. Cooksey, 70, 612 David St., died Aug. 2 in the Springdale Memorial Hospital. He was born May 22, 1898 in Nail, Ark. He is the son of Theo & Linsey Watson Cooksey, Hershel was a retired farmer and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel Parsons Cooksey of the home; three sons, Efton of Henderson, Ky., Lester of Elkins and Wayne of Palmyra, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Willard Jackson of Springdale, Mrs. Bill King of Rogers, and Mrs. Charles Sparks of Germany; four step-sons, Jody, Turl, Bob and Welburn Parsons all of Springdale; two step-daughters, Mrs. Glen Puryear of Springdale and Mrs. John Price of London, Ark.; three sisters, Mrs. Sam Self, Mrs. Bob Taylor and Mrs. Matt Reynolds all of Washington; one brother, Lloyd Cooksey of Woodland, Calif; 33 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Hershel is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and the mother of his children, Ethel Reynolds Cooksey, she died Aug. 29, 1960.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock in the United Baptist Church in Springdale with Rev. Clyde Hudson officiating.

Burial will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Shiloh, Ark., cemetery under the direction of Callison Funeral Home of Rogers.

According to the 1940 United States Census (SOURCE: Year: 1940; Census Place: Murray, Newton, Arkansas; Roll T627_158; Page: 4B; Enumeration District: 51-18) Ethel and Hershell had 6 kids:

2) Lester Cooksey
3) Delcie (Cooksey) Jackson
4) Lucille (Cooksey) King
5) Wayne Cooksey
6) Jeweldean “Jewell” (Cooksey) Sparks
