Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of Joseph W. and Betty Bowman Esenbock. Mrs. Johns was a Lafayette High School and University of Kentucky graduate. She was an insurance service manager and a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors other than her husband and parents include a daughter, Christy (Chip) Kaufman; a grandson, Clay Kaufman; brothers, Joseph W. Esenbock, Jr., and Harry Michael Esenbock; a sister, Barbara Frizzell; and six nieces and nephews.
