Philip Albert Zlatnik, M.D., age 68, a native of Two Rivers, died August 28, 1997, in San Francisco after a long illness.

Services were held on September 11, 1997, in San Francisco. The body was cremated and the ashes committed to the sea.

He was born in Two Rivers, on March 15, 1929, son of the late Alfred and Florence Calkins Zlatnik. Philip graduated from Washington High School, and then attended Carlton College and the University of Wisconsin. He received his medical degree from Marquette University. He served an internship at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee. Having grown up on the shore of Lake Michigan, Philip had a lifelong love of boating and the sea. Following his internship, he served as an officer in the United States Navy. While on active duty in the Pacific he met his wife, Fairlie Borthwick of Melbourne, Australia. After his military service, Philip trained in surgery at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, He practiced surgery with his father for several years in Two Rivers. In 1974 he and his family emigrated to Australia, where he practiced surgery and later industrial medicine. He retired to San Francisco three years ago.

Survivors include three children, Zara Louise Zlatnik, Melbourne, Serena Alexandra Zlatnik, Los Angeles, Philip Alexander Murray Zlatnik, San Francisco; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Rudolph Kluiber, Bernardsville, N.J.; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Gail Zlatnik, Iowa city; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
