Obituary:
Doris Evelyn Phelps, 79, of Springfield, passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007. Doris was born the daughter of James A. and Jessie Deitz, of Carthage, MO., on February 16, 1927.
She was united in marriage to Robert L. Phelps on the 1st of January 1949., who was her life long partner of 58 years and shared three beautiful children.
Doris and her husband owned and operated many small businesses throughout their life together, yet her devotion was to her home and her family. She was known for her loving smile, big heart and her commitment to family traditions. To those who knew her well, she will always be known and remembered as "Meme."
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, James A and Jessie Deitz. She is survived by her husband Bob; three children and their spouses, Mike Phelps, Pam and Doug Lyman, Richard L and Donna Phelps, of of Springfield, MO.; a sister, three brothers and their spouses, Bette and Ernie Heisten, Jim and Shirley Deitz, Bob and Barb Deitz, all of Carthage, MO., and Jerry and Barb Deitz, of Tulsa, OK.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kristi and Jason Knopinski, of Denver, CO., Brooke and Mike Glenn, Christopher and Lyndsey Phelps, Miranda Phelps, and Jennifer Phelps, all of Springfield; three great-grand children, Jaxon Glenn, Noah Phelps and one that will arrive in July. She will be remembered by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and off whose lives she touched.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, January 8 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, with Rev Paul Swadley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family has requested that you make a donation in Doris' name to the American Cancer Society.
