Waldo, Early Wright Staff Man, Is Dead

TWO RIVERS —
Alfred T. Waldo, 69, of 2916 Adams St., a widely known sales engineer in the laboratory division of the Hamilton Manufacturing Company, and an early architectural employe of Frank Lloyd Wright, died unexpectedly at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital after an illness of only a day.

Mr. Waldo, a licensed architect and formerly employed by the Milwaukee Board of Education, who had been responsible for many outstanding Hamilton layouts and installations in educational institutions throughout the nation, was stricken at his home early Saturday morning and was removed to the hospital shortly before noon Saturday.

Masonic funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Deja & Martin Inc., Funeral Home, the Rev. F. C. St. Clair, pastor of St. James Episcopal Church, Manitowoc, officiating. The Masonic rites will be directed by Past Master Heber Clayton of the Two Rivers Lodge NO. 200, F. & A.M. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery.

Mr. Waldo was born at Columbus, Wis., on April 10, 1885, a son of the late Albert S. and Mary Waterhouse Waldo. He attended the public grade school at Columbus and was graduated from Columbus High School. He entered Beloit College for one year and later enrolled at the Illinois School of Technology, Chicago, graduating in 1909. His first position was with the world-famous architect Wright, and after a year as associated with the John Deere Company at Moline, Ill.

A number of years later Mr. Waldo became associated with the Milwaukee architectural firm of Eschweiler & Eschweiler, and later was with the architectural staff employed by the Milwaukee Board of Education.

Fourteen years ago Mr. Waldo joined the Hamilton Manufacturing Company as a sales engineer in the laboratory division. He worked in the home office and in the field on job developments for the science laboratory program, where he gained recognition for his designing and engineering achievements.

Mr. Waldo married Ethel Gertrude Birkel at Rock Island, Ill., who survives him with two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Thiede of River Forest, Ill., and Miss Doris Adams Waldo of Columbus, Wis., and a brother, Donald Waldo of Los Angeles, Calif.

His fraternal affiliations included membership in the Two Rivers Lodge No. 200, F. & A.M., and the Barney G. Lyman Chapter, No. 116, Royal Arch Masons, Two Rivers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 p.m. Monday to the time of services.
