Eugene ""Big Spike"" David Stuebs, age 63, of 3618 Monroe St., Two Rivers, and a resident of the Manitowoc Health Care Center for the past three years, surrendered his earthly life to be in the everlasting arms of his Savior on Friday, July 7, 2006, at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, after a valiant three-year battle with serious health issues.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Pastor David Arndt, with burial to follow in Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Gene was born August 15, 1942, in Two Rivers, a son of the late Erich Sr. and Caroline (Mueller) Stuebs. He attended St. John's Parochial School and was a graduate with the first class of Manitowoc Lutheran High School in 1960. On June 24, 1967, he married Judith Bohm at St. John's Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Gene was the owner of Gene Stuebs Builders, Two Rivers, for many years and was a member of the Master Builders Association. He was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church and was instrumental in the building of the current St. John's Lutheran School. While Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, volleyball and being a sponsor for many local sports teams, his greatest enjoyment was being ""Papa"" to his five grandchildren.

He is survived by his faithful wife of 39 years: Judy; one son and daughter-in-law: David & Tanya Stuebs of Two Rivers; one daughter Wendy ""Breezy"" Navani of Green Bay and her fiance Brian Muehlbauer; five loving grandchildren: Nikhita ""Scooter"" Navani, Priya ""Prixy"" Navani, Taran ""Butch"" Stuebs, Brady Noah Stuebs and Alicia Hansen; his mother-in-law: Joyce Bohm of Two Rivers; five brothers and sisters-in-law: Warren (Doris) Stuebs of Chippewa Falls, Kenneth (Nancy) Stuebs of Two Rivers, Merlin (Karen) Stuebs of Darboy, Martin (Janet) Stuebs of Ixonia, and Daniel (Donna) Stuebs of Hernando, Fla.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Elaine (Richard) Emond of Two Rivers, Linda (Roy) Schlavensky of New London, and Diana Moseley of Morrow, Ga. and her special friend Bob Joyner. He is further survived by a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law: Wayne (Betty) Bohm, JoAnne (Richard) Kouba, all of Two Rivers; special friends Butch and Sharon Strouf of Manitowoc; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both his father-in-law: LaVern Bohm, and his brother: Erich Jr.

Friends may call at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday evening and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Memorials would be appreciated to Manitowoc Lutheran High School or St. John's Lutheran School.

Eugene's family would like to express their gratitude to his special friends, family and caregivers who took time to be with him over the past three years. Each one walked away learning very special life lessons. He was a hero to us all.
