Joseph T. Steffes, 85, of 3106 Adams Street, Two Rivers, died Monday afternoon, February 18, at Washington D.C.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The Rev. Paul Schumacher will officiate with burial to follow at Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.
Mr. Steffes was born September 26, 1899, in the Town of Russell, Sheboygan County, son of the late Simon and Julia Kuntz Steffes. Mr. Steffes attended St. Luke Parochial School and Washington High School. Mr. Steffes was employed at Hamilton Industries for 57 years, of which 20 years were spent in the Washington D.C. office. He married the former Margaret Liljequist on August 6, 1927, at Mishicot. She preceded him in death February 4, 1974. Mr. Steffes was a member of Two Rivers Elks Lodge, of which he was an exalted ruler, a member of Knights of Columbus of which he was a past Grand Knight and a member of Kiawanis Silver K. Club.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Carol Steffes of Two Rivers and John I. and Mary Steffes of Silver Spring, Maryland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Allan Kelly of Los Angeles and Anne Weaver of Silver Springs, Maryland; a sister, Mrs. Philomena Hallisey of Chicago, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survived. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Friends may call at Deja and Martin Funeral Chapel, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday evening. Elks Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. and a family memorial service at 7 p.m.
