Edwin A. Specht, 67, of 2227 14th St., Two Rivers, died early Tuesday morning at Maple Crest Sanitorium, Whitelaw, where he had been a patient 21 months. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Emanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church, Two Rivers, the Rev. Karl Koch officiating. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery.

Mr. Specht was born March 30, 1896, in the Town of Kossuth, son of the late Herman and Laura Krieser Specht. He married Margaret Greenwood Feb. 6, 1918, in the Town of Kossuth where they farmed until 1946 when they moved to Two Rivers. He was employed at Mirro Aluminum Co. from 1947 until retiring in 1961.

He served in World War I in France, entering service Nov. 18, 1917 and was discharged March 27, 1919. He was private first class with the 261st Casual Co. and fought in the battle of Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne, was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of world War I of Manitowoc.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Neil Kinsey of Fish Creek; two sons, Prof. Raymond Specht of Stevens Point and Milton of Manitowoc; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at Klein and Stangel Inc. Funeral Home, Two Rivers after 2 p.m. Thursday until the hour of service.

Edwin A. Specht, who served as a member of the 30/39?th Reg. 4th Division through their campaign in France, received his honorable discharge at Camp Grant and arrived at his home at Rockwood yesterday. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Specht. During his experience he suffered but one injury, a machine gun bullet striking him in the side. The hurt, while painful, was not serious.

WEARS BULLET THAT NEAR 'GOT HIM' AS A WATCH CHARM NOW

Private H. Specht, son of Herman Specht, lately returned soldier from France, has one of the most interesting watch charms of any of the local contingent of soldiers who went over to do their bit on the European battlefrields. The charm consists of a partly split German Mauser bullet, but having most of its contour intact. The bullet was one which physicians removed from the abdomen of Specht after a particular hard engagement which Specht and his fellows fought just outside of the Argonne forest. (illegible)…No Man's Land when he felt a sting and soon the front of his uniform was blood stained. He fainted and was carried to a field hospital where the wound was treated. The bullet was dug out from where it was embedded in the flesh. Fortunately for the victim the bullet never entered deeply but tore a gash across the stomach, fully a half inch in width. The bullet had hit the ground first and ricocheted. When he recovered, nurses gave Specht the bullet which so nearly ended his career, as a souvenir, and he has had it mounted.
