Actor. He will best be remembered for playing the roles of Italian or Jewish characters, most notably as 'Benjamin Cohen' the father of 'Percival Isaac Cohen Dalton' (played by Steve Tracy)' and father-in-law of 'Nellie Olsen' (played by Allison Arngrim) on the "Little House On The Prairie" television series in 1981. Born Elias Mortimer Margolese in Montreal, Quebec, he began his acting career as a child star in stage productions at the Montreal Yiddish Theatre in Montreal, Quebec. He eventually began appearing on television in plays for "General Electric Theatre" during the 1950s. He made his official film debut as actor Rod Steiger's brother-in-law in director Sydney Lumet's "The Pawnbroker" in 1964 and also appeared in Muppets creator Jim Henson's experimental television drama"The Cube" in 1969. During the 1970s, he worked for the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, as a stage director and helped with the direction of such stage productions as "Three Penny Opera," "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying," and "West Side Story." He later moved to the United States and began working in films and television for some time before relocating back to Canada. Besides, "Little House On The Prairie," "General Electric Theatre," and "The Cube," his other television appearances include, "The Wayne & Shuster Show," "Scope TV," "First Performance," "On Camera," "The Unforeseen," "Cannonball," "The Wayne And Shuster Hour," "The Forest Rangers," "Seaway," "Reluctant Nation" (as Manitoba Premier John Norquay), "The Jeffersons," "T.J. Hooker," "MacGyver," "Night Heat," and "Rin Tin Tin: K-9 Cop." Besides, "The Pawnbroker" (1964), his other films include, "Lies My Father Told Me" (1975), "Off Your Rocker" (1982), and Partners 'n Love" (1992). His last role was playing that of a hot dog vendor in an episode of the popular television series, "Due South" in 1999. He passed away at the age of 80, in Toronto, Ontario.
