Mary was the only child of Calvin & Josephine Johnson. She was born Feb. 10, 1861. Her father joined the Civil War in Oct. of 1861 and died April 06, 1862, at the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, Shiloh, Hardin Co., TN.

Mary's mother re-married in 1867 to James A. Fisher. Mary was then raised by her Uncle Joseph D. Goakey according to her father's military records.

May 04, 1875, Mary wed Robert Cahoon Kirby in Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin. She was the mother of 11 children. 2 sons whom died in infancy and a daughter which died as a young teen.

James (1), James (2), Alice, Mary, Josephine, Robert, Margaret, Joseph, Harry, William & Thomas Kirby.

In 1892 her mother died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was accidently shot at a Wild West Show in Rockford, IL.

With all the heartaches, Mary was still a warm, loving, spirited woman. She lived to be 91 years old. She will be forever loved and mourned by her family.
