Rebecca's maiden name, Kean, is pronouned like Cain, so researchers and recorders often confuse the name. From early times in South Carolina, the Kean family strictly made it known that their name was not pronounced like Keen, but like Kane. This story is on record from South Carolina, where Rebecca's father was born.

Rebecca Kean, daughter of John B. Kean and Patience (Jeffers) Kean, married John Wesley Barnett, son of Andrew Barnett and Amelia (Marsh) Barnett. Their children (information from official records, census, marriage, death, etc.):

Mariah C., born about 1849, married in Monroe County 18 Nov 1874 Uriah Hughes, died 4 Jan 1931 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

Amelia J., born about 1851 and named for her paternal grandmother, married in Monroe County 6 July 1871 Harry Smith, died 18 July 1928 in South Macon, Macon County, Illinois.

William Henry, born about 1853, married in Monroe County 21 Oct 1874 Mary Melissa Martin, died 12 August 1929 in Noble County, Ohio. He was a harness maker and shoemaker.

John Wesley, born about 1854, married 1883 (census record, not marriage record) Eva Dora Reed who was born in Illinois. He died about 1927 and is buried in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. He was quite the adventurer, it seems, for he is found living in Iowa for a few years, also.

James Ross, born about 1856, married in Monroe County 28 Nov 1877 Olive Hughes, died in Monroe County 6 Aug 1930. He was a farmer.

Charles H., born about 1858, married in Noble County, Ohio 8 Nov 1888 Arabell “Belle” Spence. Her full name was probably Triphena Arabella. He died after 1920. He was a barber.

Laura, born about 1861, married in Council Bluffs, Iowa 27 July 1917 John Barbour, died about 1949 in Connecticut where her daughter was residing, buried at Ellington, Tolland County, Connecticut.

Etta M., born about 1863, in Anderson, Indiana in the 1900 census, husband William L. Johnston, a well driller. Census record says they were married in 1888. Her death record in Anderson, Indiana 17 Dec 1924 verifies her parents.
