Duke took his final flight on April 2, 2020 to join his wife and many others. He was born in Brigham City, UT to Rulon James Baron and Phyllis Bott Baron. He grew up with his two brothers in the family business Baron Woolen Mills which the three became owners and operators. Duke graduated from Box Elder High School and attended University of Utah.

He married his sweetheart of 64 years Mary Jeanne Shaw April 18, 1947. They raised three children, Christine, David, and Tom (RoLynn).

Duke loved life and all it offered. Some of his most memorable times were as a Naval Aviator in WWII. He served as a Lieutenant and piloted the famed SBD dive bomber and his favorite the Corsair F4U fighter bomber. This plane was equipped with 6 each 50 caliber guns and the latest air-to-surface missiles. He was assigned to the VBF-15 squadron USS Hornet. The war ended as he was in route to the Pacific campaign. Duke was cool long before Tom Cruise (Top Gun). He loved flying all types of small aircraft after leaving the Navy.

Duke loved the outdoors golfing, fishing, hunting, camping, and cattle round ups at Yost all with family and friends. Duke and Mary Jeanne always looked forward to the annual Super Activity with their friends and family at any of the many lakes for fishing and fun. He was always a favorite with his nieces and nephews at family gatherings.

Duke always had a positive attitude and was a real gentleman right to the end always thanking his daughter and caregivers. He always had a kind word. He treated everyone as a friend and made sure all were taken care of and happy.

Duke and Mary Jeanne enjoyed traveling together to see new places and meet new people. He made sure his children had this experience also.

Duke was very service minded. He was a 50 year member of the Brigham City Volunteer Fire Department. He served as Fire Chief and other capacities. Life member of the Utah Firemans Association. 50 year member of the Brigham City Rotary Club. Brigham City Elks Chapter. He served on the Utah Judicial Committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and younger brothers Dale and Rex. Surviving are his children, 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. 6 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren.

Thank you to his daughter for her care on his final journey. Thank you to Dr. John Markeson and Bristol Home Health and Kathy and Dixie for the time spent with him.
